Online Meeting 28th June 2020

Lee Street Church

Notes of on-line meeting held on 21st June 2020

We welcomed about 24 people to our on-line service.

Ken began our worship time.

Isaiah 40: 28 – 31

28

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

29

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

30

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

31

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

The Lord can give you an experience this morning to lift you - enabling you to exchange your weaknesses for His power, so you can run, walk, and keep walking, as you receive His spiritual power.

SONG

STRENGTH WILL RISE as we wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord.

(Repeat)

Our God, You reign forever;
Our hope, our strong deliverer.

You are the everlasting God,
The everlasting God.
You do not faint, You won’t grow weary.
You’re the defender of the weak,
You comfort those in need.
You lift us up on wings like eagles.

Prayer – thanks for such a wonderful God who is there – from the beginning, now, and forever in the future. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever.

Song: Our God – Chris Tomlin

Water You turned into wine, opened the eyes of the blind
there's no one like You, none like You!
Into the darkness You shine, out of the ashes we rise
there's no one like You, none like You!

Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
Our God! Our God!

Into the darkness You shine, out of the ashes we rise
there's no one like You, none like You!

Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
Our God! Our God!
Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
Our God! Our God!

And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what could stand against?
And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what could stand against?
Then what could stand against?

Matthew Helm read Psalm 146, and then shared the following prayer:

We praise you God because you are not absent;

You do not keep yourself removed,

Turning your ear away from us.

Instead, you engage, you involve yourself in human history.

When we cry out, you hear us,

Thank you God that you hear our cry, just as you did when Israel was enslaved.

More than that, You act, you intervene,

We worship you God.

You care enough to come after us,

To rescue us when all our hopes are lost.

Lord, we cry out to you.

You know our struggles, you know how insurmountable they seem

Hear our cries our God.

Deliver us from the evil that we face.

Liberate us from the things that enslave us,

Amen.

Sue – reinforced Matt’s prayer, and read the following:

“Dismiss the notion that God does not see your struggles.

On the contrary, he is fully engaged.

He sees the needs of tomorrow, and accordingly uses circumstances to create the tests of today.

He has the authority to do so.

He is the potter, we are the clay

He is the shepherd, we are the sheep.

He is the gardener, we are the branches.

He is the teacher, we are the students.

Trust His training, and you’ll get through”.

Jacqueline Brewell – thanksgiving for being with a group of believers who are praying together and experiencing a spiritual high, knowing that God has them in the palm of his hand. God’s power IS carrying them along!

Chris Cowell shared the following thoughts:

Last week someone put a photo of me picking up litter in Tilgate Park, on Spotted:Crawley. All of the comments were encouraging. The one that made me smile said, “Stating the obvious but this amazing lady will be missed when she’s gone. And the litter will start piling up!” Will litter be my legacy?

That led me to thinking about encouraging words and everyone associated with Lee Street. I thought about all the positive characteristics and abilities I see in everyone. Here’s a list. I hope you recognise some as applying to you!

  • I see love, kindness, generosity, humility, hilarity, people able to enjoy themselves and infect others with joy. People who care, show compassion and empathy.

  • I see practicality- cleaners, flower arrangers, letter and card writers, people who pick up the phone to talk, parcel and food providers for those less well off or ill.

  • I see intelligence and ability. I see students of all ages studying the Bible to pass on a word or message. Time givers, intercessors, people thinking of the best way forward, accounting, accessing the internet and passing on information. People smiling, showing friendship, people with musical ability.

  • I see creativity, simplicity, people with perception and those who are expectant. People who are helpful, tuneful, quiet, thoughtful, display humour. I see the jovial, artistic, unobtrusive and inventive.

We are All one in Christ Jesus and make up part of the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:27, and Galatians 3:28

Thanks be to God.

Paul told us about a short book he has just completed and published through Amazon. It is entitled “Heaven or Hell?”; it is a story based on the account of the two criminals on their crosses in Luke 23: 39 – 43, and the characters’ subsequent encounter with God on the day of judgement. It is aimed at non-believers, and can be accessed via this link:

Heaven Or Hell? by Paul Forrest

The book is available in paper-back or as a Kindle ebook.

Prayer Time

Thanks were given for further freedoms from lock-down, and prayers for healing for a number of members and friends.

Closing Thoughts – Brian

Hebrews 12:3

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Picking up again on the theme which Ken spoke about at the start of the service, this is an encouragement to us all to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, so we can confidently face up to whatever situations may arise in our lives day by day.

Song: When the road

When the road is rough and steep

Fix your eyes upon Jesus

He alone has power to keep,

Fix your eyes upon Him.

Jesus is a gracious friend,

One on whom you can depend,

He is faithful to the end,

Fix your eyes upon Him

BEML 29/6/20

Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
Luke 2:28-32
